Summer of Sport

As the country enters its Summer of Sport, Leadenhall Market will be holding its own sporting fixtures for July and August, open to all to take part.

Setting the season off to a pedalling start will be a Guiness World Record attempt, for the ‘most participants in a static cycle relay’. Hosted by insurance group Aventum, the world record attempt aims to see 500+ participants take turns on a single exercise bike in a continuous relay, while raising over £50,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The EC3 Relay is open to anyone to take part, with every participant needing to commit to cycling a minimum of 1km.

Taking place from Tuesday 9 – Thursday 11 July, with cycling slots running for 72 hours, including throughout the night, those wishing to get involved can register their interest at: Aventum

Those pedalling on Wednesday morning can expect to be joined and supported by F1 and F2 driver, and son of Aventum’s founder and CEO, Ollie Bearman, who will swap his four wheels for two, giving the challenge a half-way boost!

Next on the agenda is The Lamb Tavern’s Scotch Egg Race. The 18th century pub, known for its famous annual pancake day race, will be honouring their legendary snacks with a quintessentially quirky scotch egg and spoon race!

Taking place on National Scotch Egg Day (25 July), the relay races are open to anyone to take part and will take place between 1pm – 3pm. The winners will receive a £100 bar tab to spend at Leadenhall Market’s The Lamb Tavern or Old Tom’s Bar, while second place will receive a bottle of prosecco. Everyone taking part will also get a delicious scotch egg on the house. To take part, register via The Lamb Tavern website or email lambtavern@youngs.co.uk.

And for those wanting to immerse themselves in the Summer of Sport without breaking a sweat themselves, The Gamekeeper from One Circle, will be screening some of the top events of the season including Wimbledon, Formula 1, Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and more. They will also have an outdoor (covered) chillout area for visitors to take a break from the games and enjoy an al fresco casual dining. Bringing together a selection of different foodie menus from various food outlets within the market, visitors can enjoy their house Hot Salt Beef bagels, infamous burgers from the market’s notorious Boom Bap Burger and delicious sharing plates from Golden Goose, which can all be ordered from and delivered to The Gamekeeper.

Meanwhile, Boom Bap Burger, The Lamb Tavern and Bar Laurel will also be continuing their al fresco summer dining, with special menus of food and drink to be enjoyed in the splendid surrounds.
