Chelsea Fringe Celebrations

Chelsea Fringe Celebrations featuring Flower Crowns, Loire Wine Tasting and Floral Sculpture Installation

With Chelsea Fringe set to take place from 21 – 29 May, one of the City of London’s oldest Market places – Leadenhall Market – is celebrating the occasion with a specially commissioned sculptural  flower alley installation, and a wine tasting and flower crown workshop.

From today (27th April) visitors to the Victorian market can expect to see the central alley decorated with six 8 ft tall flower sculptures, designed by Julian Carter. The giant sculptures have been made from steel and powder coated in silver and red to match the market’s decorative dragons found on many of the columns and entrances, and will be in place until June 2022.

The Chelsea Fringe Festival is an alternative festival of flowers, gardens and gardening people.

Chelsea Fringe Flower Decor at Leadenhall Market

Entirely independent of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show (though acting with its support), the Fringe encompasses everything from grassroots community garden projects to avant-garde art installations, showcasing a wide range of work from professionals and enthusiasts, both from the gardening world and beyond.

To celebrate the event, Leadenhall Market’s famous shop Cheese at Leadenhall has partnered with Loire Valley Wines to host a wine tasting and flower crown making workshop. Those taking part can expect to sample four of the lesser known Loire wines whilst creating a floral headpiece using flowers selected to represent the spirit of the wild Loire Valley in France.

The workshop will take place on Thursday 26th May from 6.30pm-8.30pm and costs just £10. To book*, visit: https://bit.ly/3rUc5L8.

And for anyone wishing to visit the market and peruse its 35 boutique shops, restaurants and bars during the festival week, beautifully decorated flower carts will be displayed throughout the cobbled streets with classically British planting to reflect this year’s Chelsea In Bloom British Icons theme.
