Pancakes, Pints and Prizes this March

Flippers and Tipplers listen up!

Leadenhall Market’s March plans feature Pancakes, Pints and Prizes.

The competition is heating up in the City of London’s Leadenhall Market this March, as flippers and tipplers come together to show off their tossing and pouring skills to mark two national celebrations.

As Shrove Tuesday kicks starts the month, the return of the legendary Leadenhall Market pancake race is back! Tossers will return to Leadenhall’s 17th century pub – The Lamb Tavern – to embark on a 20m flipping relay through the cobbled streets of the Victorian market, competing for the much-coveted frying pan trophy. This year will see teams don obligatory bowler hats for the fiercely contested race and the inaugural golden pan award which will be inscribed with the winning team’s name and displayed behind the bar. Hosted by Leadenhall Market institution Charlie from London City shoeshine, the race is sure to be flipping exciting!

Meanwhile, spectators can enjoy the 100 free pancakes made by the chef at The Lamb, from the safety of the side-lines (and competitors will also receive a complimentary one too).

The event will begin at 12pm on Tuesday 1st March with the race starting at 12:30pm. Free to enter. Teams of up to four people must register beforehand by emailing lambtavern@youngs.co.uk.

Leadenhall Market Pancake Races

Fast forward two-weeks to 17th March and The Lamb will be back with another event, as a pop-up Guinness bar will be in situ to mark St. Patrick’s Day. From 12-1pm, punters who buy a Guinness can go a step further and learn how to pour the perfect St Patrick’s pint. To soak up the booze, a special menu of Irish Stew and soda bread will also be served at lunchtime. The Guinness bar will remain open for the rest of the day for those wanting to continue celebrations into the evening.

Between pancakes and pints, visitors can enjoy Leadenhall Market and its 35 boutique retailers, bars, restaurants and cafes, spread among its open-aired alleyways under a splendid wrought iron ceiling.
